When we arrived at home...
... yesterday evening, we fell into bed. Interesting: Although I managed to sleep very well in the airplane for something near to 10 hours (and so did alphascorpii), we still slept for another 16 hours when we got home.
I think I'm getting old; that's the worst jet lag I ever had. So here is a list of things you can do at 3:00 AM in the morning, when you can't sleep because of jet lag problems:
- Wait for your luggage to be delivered to you (British Airways finally managed to bring me my lost backpack; after promising me, that it's already on the way and will be delivered to me next morning, it wasn't delivered before 20:00...)
- Sort all the snail mail from the last weeks
- Read through all the mail from last weeks
- Watch the streams from the last weeks
tagesthemen
- chat with the other jet lagged people
- chat with the people still in Mexico
- Call your family telling them you got home in one piece (after not telling them, that you've left)
- Get angry, because your landlord hasn't done anything about the wet walls (well, at least the broken water pipe got fixed) or the mold on them
- Chat with your girlfriend whether

is the proper word for that - Finally drink some real vaso de leche milk
- Write some notes for DebConfs final report
- Throw them away
- Synchronize your private mirror
- Pay old bills
- Agree with other, that we should make a
Wine, cheese and chocolate
session next year - Write useless blog entries
- Adding stuff to the DebConf fortunes
Perhaps I just finish reading The Da Vinchi code
before someone, who
went to the movie, spoils the ending. See you in... wherever DebConf7 will be.

You know, that you are back home...
... when:
- No one storms at you in a store trying to sell you something, although you are just looking around killing time
- Temperature is bellow 20 degrees Celsius, even if it's summer
- You don't need a power adapter any more
- You can eat food marked as
hot
again - fruit salad isn't served with chili and salt
- Internet is working quite fast
- You understand, what's said in the PAs
But the best sign, telling you, you are finally arrived at your home, is:
You are on your toilette, wondering where the bucket has gone, and what to do with the paper!

Still alive...
Allthough it might have looked differently from time to time, I'm still alive and recovering. I just learned that I can't do everything I would do myself. Makes live lot easier ;)
Had my BoF about representing Debian / PR in Debian yesterday. I didn't had time to prepare it as good as I lighted, though. But I think it was okay. We had a nice discussion and hade some nice ideas.
Nevetheless I think I disappointed some people, who would have liked me to concentrade more on one topic; thought it would be easier to cover both of them: PR work and event stuff.
I'm still impressed how much people attended my BoF. Even it was moved to get the python guys some more time, still arround 35 people attended. Wow! I thought I would end up with 10 or less... Thanks very much! Makes me think, that my work is accepted and valued even if it's non technical related ;)

Arrived at DebConf a couple of days ago...
... things I learned so far:
.- Either the air is quite thin here or I'm realy out of training
- Mexican insect bites aren't as bad as finish ones
- You can do stuff without having net
- A DebConf where everything works out of the box from day one would be realy boring
- Sleeping at seven millione degrees celsius is not an easy task
- My tongue isn't broken enough to spell

correctly - There are animals making noises which some times are quite painfull in my ears
- Mexican food tastes good
- The 10m diving plattform is higher than the palm trees
- Jogging through early in the morning through a nearly empty hotel area has something... uhm... realy strange
- Watermelon with chili is even stranger
- Kolibris are interesting to watch
- Keycards don't like human sweat
- Sprinklers are nice to walk through; they should run more often
- Walkie talkies are a nice thing to play with ;)
Oh, and I still need to write the report from the Desktop Architects Meeting earlier that week...

[DebConf] Sometimes I like my job
It is for example fun to be one of the first who heard about a new award Debian got, and add it to our website (should be up there soon, thanks again to Cyril Brulebois from the french language team for translating).
The not fun part of my job seems to be to try to write polite mails, asking people for something without stepping on their toes. Well, let's not talk about that; after having spend several hours on writing an other mail I just feld like blow my stack but deleted the stuff I just wrote... so let's go one.
Another not that funny part of my work were the proceedings I just finished. After I lost somehow last years work (I had a very nice system of texing all those papers, creating a big PDF for printing and several small ones for download), I needed to do a complete rewrite, which got complicated by people submitting their papers in neither LaTeX nor plain text as we asked to do. Some could be fixed by some sed magic, but I'm impressed what ugly code some automated conversion tools can create. But that's done, too, and we even had the great idea of adding a credits section for all the volunteers helping to make DebConf become reality. Having that done, I couldn't resist and added a small joke. One of those insiders not everyone will get... Forgive me :)
While talking about jokes: Did anyone noticed our quite new DebConf fortunes section? Feel free to submitt new ones.
Some other news: No, Gustavo, we didn't decided yet where DebConf7 will take place, but one thing is for sure: Since DebConf6 will be in Latin America the next one won't. We have several offers, including (but maybe not limited to, I might have forgot one or the other) Edinburgh, Brixen, somewhere in Greece, Sarajevo and... uhm... some people would like to have one in Germany but don't think we could afford that, so it's quite sure DebConf7 won't be here. But as said, decision has not been made (but it looks like it will be in Europe ;) and currently we don't have the time to think much about that. Let's try to get DebConf6 done first ;)
